A SPECIAL NOTE ON THE EVENTS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

The entire staff of the WHITEHOUSE.ORG parody offers its most sincere condolences to the many friends, loved ones, and fellow citizens so terribly touched by the events of September 11, 2001. As fiercely proud residents of New York City and Washington DC (and elsewhere), many of us at WHITEHOUSE.ORG were direct witnesses to these unspeakable acts of horror, and have each been consumed by an intense sorrow in the days and weeks that have passed.

One month later, we have begun the painful but entirely necessary process of resuscitating WHITEHOUSE.ORG, which was removed from the World Wide Web within minutes of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Today, as our country descends into a war against shadows, we at WHITEHOUSE.ORG continue to mourn the victims of last month's atrocities, and to wholeheartedly support the members of the armed forces who are working so hard to pursue justice.

At the same time, we grow alarmed at what has become an increasingly conspicuous absence of both critical analysis in the news media and spirited debate within our government - not to mention a noted decrease in tolerance for voices of dissent within the academic community. And so we will return to doing what we do best - socio-political satire and parody of the leftist piss-ant variety - and our focus shall remain the Executive Branch of the federal government, which despite the crisis which grips our nation, is neither flawless nor immune to criticism.

There are no doubt those who will argue that the aforementioned sentiments are somehow tantamount to treason, and that WHITEHOUSE.ORG is somehow anti-American and anti-freedom-and-liberty. In fact, we at WHITEHOUSE.ORG are steadfast in our belief that principled dissent is the most essential component of a healthy and vibrant democracy. And so we shall return to providing just that - spiked with a sizable dose of surreal levity.

As we forge ahead, our hearts go out not only to the victims of September 11th, but also to the many victims who are doubtless still to come, both at home and abroad - American and foreign alike - of myriad faiths, philosophies, and cultures. In the end, there will be no real winners in this conflict. People will have died, and people will have suffered. But we will go on, because to do otherwise would be to permit insanity to prevail.

We thank you for your many kind letters urging us to bring back WHITEHOUSE.ORG - they figured prominently in our decision to begin publishing once again. Please join us in mid-November, when a newly updated WHITEHOUSE.ORG will resume dancing its very own moronic polka of dissent.
